Welp.

1 min read
I was gone for about a year (more? I don't know). There were some reasons for this, but they were mostly self-inflicted, so I won't pretend it's anything from any outside source.

Basically, I started to hate my own work, and instead of continuing to work and improve, I got mopey and gave up.

Which was stupid.

So I'm back! And I will draw and upload stuff and maybe someday I won't suck.

And if my art DOES suck, at least it's a good method to show a story, right?

Hooray, comics!

Changes! Bwah!

I haven't been here in a while. Work has been a bit busy and I'm trying to finish off some responsibilities for some groups I'm in.

I'm stepping down from Cloudscape Comics as treasurer. Not because I don't like it, it's just been kinda busy for me. I was on the board for two years, and for many reasons it was a really great two years of my life. But now I'm looking forward to being a member again, and just drawing and making art like I used to. These guys are awesome and work super hard for that group and I hope I can always be involved. :)

I'm working on a new comic that talks about life working night shift at a grocery store chain. It's based on real events, but it will just be strip comics. I have the script done up to some degree, and I hope to post them soon.

Thanks if you are still following me! It means a lot.

Hey you guys~

So, I haven't updated anything in months. This is because I've been working on my entry to Cloudscape's newest anthology, Waterlogged. (I'm so freakin excited about that book). Actually, I've spent the last full week and all of my spare time in my studio working on drawings for this book. I'll post some pages from that when I get a chance to fix scanning errors, etc.

This weekend, Cloudscape's putting on a 24 hour comic jam. The purpose of the jam is to promote our Publishing Resource Center, and to get it up and running. We really want to offer the chance for the community to come in and print their own mini comics, without needing to go to a second party (Like a big print shop) or do a huge run. The cost of such an effort is a bit more than Cloudscape can afford on their own, though, so we have a fundraising site up for that:
www.weeve.it/project/updates?i…

The event link is here, if you would like to join (and you live in the Vancouver area):
www.facebook.com/events/126431…

I'll be one of the sleep deprived folk drawing and streaming through this process. Since my methods are mostly traditional I'm not sure how I'm gonna do that yet. In any case, it should be funny to watch people trying to be creative for that long. If you want a mini comic we've made during that effort, you should donate to the cause. You'll get some neat mail and a sketch inside. I like mail. :)

This is a really cool way to make comics more accessible for EVERYONE in the community, so I'm hoping people take to it. If you know anyone who might be interested in helping out with this (financially, or by coming to the event, or just by telling a friend) please pass on the event info.

Sorry if this is a bit spammy, I just wanted to get the word out!

New Comic Site!

2 min read
Hey!

I finally have a website up, so I thought I'd tell you about it here.

The URL is chris.vivier.ca

It'll update at LEAST every Monday, more if I can help it.

I'm currently updating the Most Hated Princess on there, until May 8th or so (when it's done). After that I'll be updating 'The Silver Totem' (Formerly 'The Bell'). There will be short comics shoved in there wherever I can get them in.

I had a really good time at FanExpo on the weekend, here in Vancouver! It is really cool, getting to know artists that I only knew about and obsessed over on the internet as actual people, rather than the comic-gods I had once perceived them as. Not that Nina Matsumoto and Sam Logan and all the swell people I got to hang out with or talk to aren't comic gods. But they are great people too! Which is aces.

It has kind of made me feel like a big lazy butt, so I'm going to try to get myself in gear to actually create more. Once I get over this CON FLU what is this really

Thanks for reading my comics or just looking at my silly pictures!

I cannot imagine news being anything but 'newsy' but there you go.

I keep taking unplanned hiatuses. It is starting to get pretty terrible, so I figured I should explain what is going on.
(Maybe I should have just called this journal 'reasons why Christine doesn't update her darned webcomic'. )

What the heck happened to Azale?

I recently joined a comic collective here in Vancouver called 'Cloudscape Comics'.  It's been a great experience for me already, as I've been able to meet a crazy amount of mad-talented artists in the city, make connections, and  force myself to be productive.  I have also joined their convention committee, so I'll hopefully be going around to see people and the like soon.

It has give me several opportunities to better myself as an artist, to meet and gather in a place where we can discuss our stories and art, and to see the extremely positive effects the group has on everyone in it. We work together to publish anthologies of comic work! (or they do. I'll be in one in the future)

It's been a great experience for me. And it has inspired me to do my own smaller works. That is what 'The Most Hated Princess' is all about. I have another short comic coming after that with a fantasy spin (that I can't talk much about yet) and then one based off the novel I wrote last year for Nanowrimo.

To be honest, although I love Azale, it is getting difficult for me to draw the pages every week. It's really a long term project that I'd like to work on when I have time, rather than every Saturday.  It isn't dead, but the site is going to be overhauled soon and you will see more comics there. (the site url will also be changing. I'll let you know what that is, soon.)

So Azale isn't going anywhere, it's just resting while I work on other things. And it will be better when it's done!

What will be on the website?

I'm so glad you asked, myself who is drafting these questions so it will be easy to answer!

My husband recently bought 'vivier.ca' Vivier is my last name, and I think the url www.christine.vivier.ca is probably more professional than 'Azale.org' That will be the url, if I can get it.

The site is going to be a multi-comic site when I can figure out what the heck I'm doing. So it will include several comics as well as my mentee kawaii139 's comic which should have been put up months ago.

So to be honest, I'm gone now, but it's because I'm trying to broaden myself as an artist. If I don't take myself seriously, nobody else is going to. which is rough, because I never take anything seriously (but I will try!)
